DVLA MEETS PRESS CORPS AHEAD OF 2025 OUTREACH PROGRAMME

Chief Executive of the Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority (DVLA), Mr. Julius Neequaye Kotey, earlier today, engaged the press corps of the Authority ahead of its 2025 outreach initiative.

The Authority has earmarked April to November this year to undertake its community outreach programme that would see the Authority decentralizing its licensing and other services to the doorsteps of the general public.

The outreach which seeks to maximise public education while promoting compliance with road-user regulations remains dear to the heart of the Chief Executive.

The meeting with the press corps comes after similar engagements with other stakeholders including the Ghana National Fire Service, National Road Safety Authority, Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, among others.

The Chief Executive used the opportunity to apprise the media on some major innovations and measures being put in place to reduce the use of middlemen in acquiring the services of the Authority.

According to the Chief Executive, Direct from Port (DP) stickers with security features would be introduced by the Authority to replace the number plates. This, he said, would curb the phenomenon of importers using a single plate for moving multiple vehicles out of the Ports.

He said “there is the need to align the issuance of DP stickers to the number of vehicles cleared from the Ports by the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)”.

The Chief Executive used the opportunity to call on the media to work together with the Authority to promote compliance and to cover public education programmes by DVLA through the Outreach programme to ensure the safety of road users.

The Deputy Chief Executive of  DVLA, Foster Akwasi Asante, Esq., endorsed the ongoing innovations, calling them a crucial step toward boosting revenue and efficiency. He acknowledged current revenue losses but expressed confidence that the changes would enhance income generation.

He emphasized the key role of technology in the reforms, noting its potential to streamline operations and curb financial leakages.

Expressing gratitude to the media for their participation, he urged continued support for the transformation agenda, assuring that the reforms would ultimately benefit both  DVLA and the general public.
