WHY ARE SOME DRIVERS WICKED?

On Sunday, I was at the Polo Club enjoying a polo match when I suddenly heard a loud screech on the road leading to Spintex or the airport. My curiosity got the best of me, so I stretched my neck to see what was happening…

Guess what?

Your guess is right! An accident. A car and a motorbike.

But the saddest part? The driver, after knocking the motorbike rider off his bike, sped off without stopping—not to check on the man, not to offer help, not even to say sorry.

Some motorists got there before me, but they couldn't do much, just like myself. So, I told the injured man to lie down flat while others helped move his bike to a safer spot.

I had no first aid kit, so I quickly reached for his phone and asked which number I should call. He asked me to call his boss.

I did as he instructed. His boss arrived an hour later. At some point, I got scared because of the way the injured man was behaving. When his boss finally got there, I handed over his phone and helped him into his boss’s car.

This incident is a reminder to all of us: Whether driving, riding, or even walking on the streets of Accra, we must all be extra cautious.
